BANNU: Sacked personnel of the Special Police force on Monday staged a protest rally to press the government to reinstate them.
Led by Tauseefullah, Falak Zaman, Mukhtiar and others, the protesters were carrying banners and placards. They walked through various bazaars and gathered outside the Bannu Press Club.
Later, speaking at a press conference, they said they had been recruited on contract basis after internally displaced persons (IDPs) had moved to Bannu due to operation Zarb-e-Azb.
They said ” we were employed on Rs. 15000 per month salary but we worked like regular police force. Five of us were martyred”.
They said they had assisted the local police in controlling law and order situation.
They said the provincial government terminated the services of 500 personnel after return of the IDPs to North Waziristan Agency.
The sacked personnel said the government had rendered them jobless and created starvation-like situation at their homes as they did not have any other source of income.
